High yield strength steels

Fine-grade microalloyed steels with a low carbon content with the addition of niobium, titanium, and/or vanadium as microalloying elements to achieve structural hardening and grain refining. These steels show improved weldability as a result of carbon equivalent.

The low sulfur content, high internal purity, and fine-grade structure ensure better ductility, higher toughness, and higher fatigue resistance.

The demand for this type of steel is growing day by day, often as a replacement for structural steels, since due to their high elastic strength they represent a great weight saving compared to these. They are also in great demand in the automotive sector, where they contribute, to a large extent, to weight savings in body bodies.

What are the qualities of high yield strength steels?

High elastic limit steels are materials that stand out for their strength and efficiency. Below, we detail their main qualities:

Higher yield strength

This is their main feature. It means that they can withstand greater stresses before being permanently deformed.

Higher tensile strength

It allows them to withstand higher loads without breaking.

Lower weight

Despite their high strength, these steels are typically lighter than other types of steel, making them ideal for applications where weight is a critical factor.

Good ductility

Despite their high strength, they retain a good ability to deform before fracturing, making them safe and reliable.

Excellent weldability

They can be easily welded, making them easy to use in various applications.

Good tenacity

They can absorb energy without breaking easily, making them resistant to impact and vibration.

Versatility

They are suitable for a wide range of applications, from construction to the automotive industry.

What are the benefits of high yield strength steels?

High yield strength steels offer a number of significant advantages that make them very attractive for various industries, mainly those linked to the metal sector. Below, we detail the main benefits according to the sector:

High yield strength steels in the construction sector

  • ›Lighter structures: By allowing construction with thinner sections, the weight of the structures is reduced, which implies lower transport and foundation costs.
  • ›Higher load capacity: Thanks to their high strength, they can withstand higher loads, which allows taller buildings and longer bridges to be built.
  • ›Higher seismic resistance: Their ductility and energy absorption capacity make them ideal for seismic areas.

High elastic strength steels in the Automotive Industry sector

  • ›Reduced vehicle weight: This translates into lower fuel consumption and lower pollutant emissions.
  • ›Greater safety: By better absorbing energy in the event of an impact, they contribute to improving the safety of the occupants.
  • ›More flexible design: They allow for more innovative and aerodynamic designs.

Other General Benefits

  • ›Increased efficiency: By optimizing material use, waste is reduced and environmental impact is minimized.
  • ›Increased durability: Their resistance to corrosion and fatigue gives them a longer lifespan.
  • ›Versatility: They can be used in a wide range of applications, from construction to machine building.
  • ›Long-term costs: Despite a potential higher upfront cost, long-term benefits such as increased energy efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements make them a cost-effective investment.

We answer some questions about high elastic strength steels

Frequently Asked Questions

What are high yield strength steels?

High yield strength steels are types of steel that, thanks to special manufacturing processes, have a higher resistance to deformation before breaking. This means that they can withstand higher loads without permanently deforming.

How are they different from other types of steel?

The main difference lies in their yield strength, which is significantly higher. This is achieved through alloying processes and specific heat treatments.

Are they more expensive than other types of steel?

In general, they are more expensive due to the more complex manufacturing processes. However, in the long run, the benefits in terms of durability and efficiency can offset this initial investment.

Are they recyclable?

Yes, like other types of steel, high yield strength steels are 100% recyclable.

What is the difference between high yield strength steel and high strength steel?

While the terms are often used synonymously, there is a slight difference. Yield strength refers to a material's ability to elastically deform, while tensile strength refers to the maximum force it can withstand before breaking. A high yield strength steel generally also has high tensile strength.

Does Ferros Texar distribute high yield steel throughout Spain?

Yes, for more than 18 years we have distributed our steel sheets throughout Spain. Recently, the areas of the Basque Country, Zaragoza and Valencia are the areas where we distribute the most high elastic limit steel.
