Perforated steel sheets
BESPOKE DESIGN AND FUNCTIONALITY IN EVERY DRILL PATTERN
Perforated sheet metal is a metal sheet in which the perforations of the metal have been cut, which is characterized by having geometric perforations following a certain pattern. This type of sheet stands out for its great versatility, as it combines excellent technical characteristics with a careful aesthetic image. Stainless steel, iron and aluminum are the most commonly used materials, and we can also provide our products in a wide range of finishes, such as polished stainless steel, brushed aluminum, anodized, etc.
Perforated sheet metal can be used in a large number of applications in sectors such as decoration, furniture, soundproofing, filtering and many more which is perfect for the design. Since it has a wide variety of standardized perforations in square holes, decorative patterns, long rounded and rectangular, round and on request, any other type of perforation necessary through the construction of specific punches and dies, as well as with the use of laser cutting or CNC punching. This design normally has a good strength-to-weight ratio.

What types of perforated sheets are there?
There are different types of perforated sheets, which can be classified according to the perforation pattern, material, and thickness. Here are some of the most common types:
According to the drilling pattern:
- Round perforation:
- Straight round: perforations aligned in straight rows.
- Diagonal round: perforations aligned in a diagonal or zigzag pattern.
- Round mill: with circular holes evenly distributed along its surface. These veneers are commonly used in the agricultural industry, specifically in mills.
- Long rounded: with elongated and rounded perforations at the ends.
- Square perforation:
- Straight square: perforations aligned in straight rows.
- Diagonal square: perforations aligned in a diagonal or zigzag pattern.
- Grooved perforation:
- Rectangular: perforations in the form of a groove, aligned straight or in a stepped pattern.
- Oblong: oval or elliptical perforations, used in applications that require greater ventilation or drainage.
- Decorative perforation:
- Custom designs: perforations in specific shapes such as stars, flowers or logos, mainly used in decorative applications.

- Stainless steel: corrosion-resistant and durable, ideal for outdoor applications and in aggressive environments.
- Aluminum: lightweight and corrosion-resistant, used in applications where weight is a crucial factor.
- Carbon steel: used in applications that require high mechanical strength, although it may need coating to prevent rust.
- Copper and brass: decorative materials that offer attractive aesthetics and good thermal and electrical conductivity.
Depending on the thickness and size of the perforation:
- Microperforated: very small perforations, used in fine filtration and acoustic control applications.
- Standard thickness sheets: medium-sized perforations, suitable for most architectural and industrial applications.
- Large perforations: large holes, used in applications where maximum ventilation and drainage are required.
According to the Finish:
- Galvanized: zinc-coated perforated sheet to improve corrosion resistance.
- Painted: paint-coated perforated sheet, available in various colors for aesthetic purposes.
- Anodized: especially for aluminum, where corrosion resistance is improved and an attractive appearance is offered.
How are perforated sheets made?
Perforated sheet metal manufacturing is done with CNC-controlled punching machines or mechanical die-cutting processes. In the CNC process, a digitally controlled machine that punches holes in the sheet metal accurately and efficiently. Mechanical die cutting, on the other hand, uses dies to drill the holes as the sheet metal passes through the machine. Laser cutting methods are also used for more complex or custom perforations. These methods allow for the production of veneers with various perforation patterns and sizes.
How do you calculate the percentage of open area in a perforated sheet?
The percentage of open area in a perforated sheet metal is calculated by dividing the total area of the holes by the total area of the sheet metal and multiplying the result by 100. This calculation is crucial because it affects the functionality of the sheet in terms of airflow, light passage, and weight reduction. For example, a sheet with a high percentage of open area will allow for better airflow and drainage, while one with a lower percentage will provide more structural support and privacy.
